08.09.2012 Rainy Season Madness

this is the scene from our house. -___- flood, flood everywhere. 

it looks a bit like spaghetti, yeah? it's homemade nachos though :) 

As I've been mentioning in the last couple of blog posts, the weather here in the Philippines has been really bipolar and it's been raining more than it really should. The other day(when i posted about the yummy crsipy chicken bulgogi), it was raining really hard. Good thing I had a free cut so I was able to go home early, because that night it started to flood around the area of my school. At first we were still kinda giddy because we hoped there'd be no school the following day. The rain got even harder, and this caused a lot of floods in Manila and the provinces near it. A lot of families in the flooded areas had to leave their houses and evacuate to higher ground. It barely floods around where I live, but this time it did, which meant either the rain was really hard or the drainage system in Manila now really sucks. Either way, a lot of people are still hassled by it and could be sick and need of food, rescue and our prayers. 

To pass the time, we decided to play some indoor games (well they did, i spent my time on 9gag and stalking people's blogs hihi) such as Monopoly and UNO cards.

I'm amused by the pop art-ness of this picture, so I decided to post it 

Rainy season has not yet ended, which is why lazy season isn't over yet either (bahaha). It's been stressful in school lately, maybe because it's almost finals, and a lot of people are barely getting weekends. With so many dates to remember and due dates moved earlier, it sending my groupmates and I to a headache trip, which is why I decided to wear something really comfortable and light today. I've been wearing jeans and sweaters the whole week and it's been really heavy. This light and breezy outfit is perfect for a short rest after the mounds of things I have to do. 

I know I know, they look like pajamas (no?), but I find them very funky. I also like the pattern because it's very vintage and not something you would easily see or find at a department store. I was originally wearing a hat (as seen at the top photo), and yes it looks lopsided there, but I took it off after a while because the wind was really strong. I even had to tie my hair because my curls were getting all defused. 

As part of my temporary weekend in my weekend, my family and I went to the mall to have dinner and lo and behold we stumble upon a book sale, and I looove books and reading novels. I haven't been reading novels lately because it's either I don't have time or when I do get time, I use that time to rest from the activities from school. So from there, I got a couple of books in which my favorite steal is the James Patterson Private novel. James Patterson is my favorite writer because mystery/suspense is my favorite genre more than anything else, and he writes so well in that particular field. I can't wait for the term break for me to be able to read these books (though it would be perfect now because of the weather hihi), and the most exciting part was that all of those books only costed P500 (about $10) in total. It was so overwhelming chosing the books I was going to get.

07.27.2012 RIO Vol. 5 Issue No. 2

This year, i joined as an inker for the Business Management Society in my school. An inker is someone who writes, takes pictures and edits layouts for BMS's publications such as the Red Ink(magazine) and the Red Ink Online(such as the one shown above). As a first task, I was assigned to write about the organization's 1st General Assembly.

06.24.2012 Carlos Celdran's Walking Tour of Intramuros

Manila Cathedral

Ever since we were 14, my bestfriend Sam and I have always wanted to go on a tour of Intramuros. Yes, we've been here a couple of times, but we've heard that Carlos Celdran does a good job of explaining things around here. Also, we've been a little busy with a lot of what's going on in our lives right now which is why we didn't have the time to actually plan it out and sign up for his tour. Well, we finally have and it was definitely worth it! First we went to Fort Santiago, where he explained a lot about the Spanish colonization in our country and had a bit of introduction on the American colonization period. Then we went to the original location of Ateneo de Manila, where Jose Rizal studied. We were able to arrive at our destination riding a kalesa. There he explained about the American colonization in our country. Our final stop was at the San Agustin Church. After the tour, he treat all of us to some refreshing halo-halo, which he explained to be a metaphorical representation of Filipinos because of the bountiful mix in our culture. 

His tour was unlike most tours wherein the tour guide points at something and explains it. His had more depth. He would gather everyone around in one place and that's where he would start talking about the history. He had a portfolio of pictures that guided him as he spoke. We could tell that he is really into his job and that it's not just for compulsory and it seemed like he was really passionate about changing how we should view Manila. 

What I especially liked about this tour is that when we would walk to or next destination, Carlos would hold a casette player that had background music from the old times. It really took out the stress in walking under the heat of the sun. 

Next stop: The Imelda Tour!

Today, a few of my High School batch mates and I went back to our school to greet one of our favorite teachers a Happy Birthday. Although it isn't her exact birthday yet, we decided to visit her because her real birthday is on a weekend. It was fun being able to catch up on people's lives and reminisce on how we used to be back in high school. We talked about our little adventures and memories back in that school. Apparently, shorts are not allowed to be worn there, so I was hiding a bit from the personnel. I didn't know that it wasn't allowed because they let me in! :)) We found out because some of our batch mates weren't able to get in so easily, but it was all good when we were already inside. 

I was so glad to have found these shorts! Usually, the one-sized high waisted shorts in tiangges don't fit me because I think they are more leaned to Filipina girl sizes(which are small), and I have big hips. Well not so big, but not as small as average Filipinas, so when I saw these shorts, tried them on and they fit me, I just had to buy them-because i barely find any in my size! haha. Besides, I really like their color because I'm very into pastel-turquoisey color these days. As for my necklace, I bought it during my school's bazaar for it's centennial closing celebration for a very good price(P200 or roughly about $4) without shipping :")
