Rainy Season Madness

this is the scene from our house. -___- flood, flood everywhere.
it looks a bit like spaghetti, yeah? it's homemade nachos though :)

As I've been mentioning in the last couple of blog posts, the weather here in the Philippines has been really bipolar and it's been raining more than it really should. The other day(when i posted about the yummy crsipy chicken bulgogi), it was raining really hard. Good thing I had a free cut so I was able to go home early, because that night it started to flood around the area of my school. At first we were still kinda giddy because we hoped there'd be no school the following day. The rain got even harder, and this caused a lot of floods in Manila and the provinces near it. A lot of families in the flooded areas had to leave their houses and evacuate to higher ground. It barely floods around where I live, but this time it did, which meant either the rain was really hard or the drainage system in Manila now really sucks. Either way, a lot of people are still hassled by it and could be sick and need of food, rescue and our prayers.

To pass the time, we decided to play some indoor games (well they did, i spent my time on 9gag and stalking people's blogs hihi) such as Monopoly and UNO cards.

Carlos Celdran's Walking Tour of Intramuros

our awesome tour guide, Carlos Celdran
 Fort Santiago
For his tour, Carlos gives away local chocolates! om nom nom :)
kids who were with us on the tour, they seemed very interested.
did you know that ceiling is painted? it was done because WWII brought so much damage to Intramuros that it also destroyed the original ceiling of this church
having a refreshing cup of halo-halo after the tour

Ever since we were 14, my bestfriend Sam and I have always wanted to go on a tour of Intramuros. Yes, we've been here a couple of times, but we've heard that Carlos Celdran does a good job of explaining things around here. Also, we've been a little busy with a lot of what's going on in our lives right now which is why we didn't have the time to actually plan it out and sign up for his tour. Well, we finally have and it was definitely worth it! First we went to Fort Santiago, where he explained a lot about the Spanish colonization in our country and had a bit of introduction on the American colonization period. Then we went to the original location of Ateneo de Manila, where Jose Rizal studied. We were able to arrive at our destination riding a kalesa. There he explained about the American colonization in our country. Our final stop was at the San Agustin Church. After the tour, he treat all of us to some refreshing halo-halo, which he explained to be a metaphorical representation of Filipinos because of the bountiful mix in our culture.

His tour was unlike most tours wherein the tour guide points at something and explains it. His had more depth. He would gather everyone around in one place and that's where he would start talking about the history. He had a portfolio of pictures that guided him as he spoke. We could tell that he is really into his job and that it's not just for compulsory and it seemed like he was really passionate about changing how we should view Manila.

What I especially liked about this tour is that when we would walk to or next destination, Carlos would hold a casette player that had background music from the old times. It really took out the stress in walking under the heat of the sun.

Next stop: The Imelda Tour!

inspirational quote he said after the tour: "If you want to see Manila change the way it looks, you should change the way you look at Manila"-Carlos Celdran

HAPPY 114th INDEPENDENCE DAY to all Filipinos out there!

Has it really been that long since Rizal, Bonifacio, and all our other heroes fought against foreign powers for our freedom? Yes, it has-which is why it's always such a celebration for us. Come to think of it, our country is very young when it comes to being independent and being on our own. To some people, they may feel like they're ashamed to be from here, but I am proud to be a Filipino. We are a strong and clever race who can survive almost anything we face, and although others make us feel inferior at times, we still find a way to stand out, be ourselves and put a smile on our faces.

I don't know if you can tell, but I'm wearing an Independence Day outfit :)) my outfit consists of the colors of the Philippine Flag. My blue top, which is at the upper part of my body because it's in the upper part of the flag(which symbolizes freedom) is a sequined filled blouse. I chose this because I wanted blue to be the dominant color of the outfit because it is Independence Day and our focus is freedom(?) hahaha (I'm weird, i know!). I wore red for my shoes because [in our flag] it symbolizes war, which should be under or below freedom. I didn't know how to incorporate yellow in my outfit, so instead I wore a gold collar necklace, and ta-da! There goes my outfit :)

comments are much appreciated.

Corregidor Bound

i just had to :))
accessories x dress Forever 21
i spilled Doritos on my dress -.- lololol
Because of the super duper hot weather, I decided to take my cover up off. This was the smartest decision I made today.
I hade "pa-picture" with kuya guard. I wanted to look legit. :))

As a summer treat, my dad brought us to the very historical island of Corregidor where we had a guided tour. (for photography photos click here :) ) Although I have learned some general knowledge about the island/place, it was still different to actually be there to see the ruins and have a tour guide do all the talking (and research ;) ) and all you had to do was sit back and enjoy the complicated war history our country has. To get there, you have to ride a ferry boat from Manila Bay going to the island. When you reach the dock, these cute shuttles bring you to have lunch, then from there you are assigned a tour guide to explain everything throughout the day.

Today I decided to wear something colorful and light because I knew it would be a hot day, and yes, I am wearing flat oxfords for a reason! It is soooo much easier to travel in flat shoes, even if the world isn't (see what I did there). :D

I have also decided that this blog (blogspot) will be my avenue for fashion blogging and my Jux account will be used for my photography shots and other pictures that I'd like to post :) I did this so that there are specific sites that you could go to (if you like my pictures :") ) depending on what you would prefer to see, may it be about fashion or photography :D Thanks for the support, you guys! ... and spread the word hihi :)
